Blinken Shows Support for Ukraine with Music and Diplomacy
Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, joined the Ukrainian band "1999" on stage in Kyiv to play guitar and sing Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World."
The performance was part of Blinken's visit to Ukraine, where he has pledged unwavering US support as Russia intensifies attacks in the region. Blinken's guitar-playing was met with applause and cheers from the crowd at Barman Dictat nightclub.
Blinken's musical diplomacy initiative is not new. He has played the guitar while in office before, including at an event in 2021 where he performed "Hotel California" with US diplomats.
By joining 1999 on stage, Blinken showed support for Ukraine's culture and resilience, while also highlighting the importance of music as a way to connect people and promote peace.
