Early Life and Education
Pete Buttigieg, born on January 19, 1982, is an American politician and former naval officer. He holds degrees from Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
Political Career
Buttigieg served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana, for two terms. In 2020, he ran for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Although he ultimately did not secure the nomination, he gained national recognition for his progressive views and charismatic leadership style.
Secretary of Transportation
After the 2020 election, Buttigieg was nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as US Secretary of Transportation. He was sworn into office on February 3, 2021.
As Secretary, Buttigieg has focused on addressing climate change, improving transportation infrastructure, and promoting equity in the transportation system.
Personal Life
Buttigieg is married to Chasten Buttigieg, a teacher and author. They are the first openly gay couple to serve in a presidential cabinet.
