PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (AP) - Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, the father of late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has passed away at the age of 69, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Bryant, an eight-year NBA veteran, was known for his flamboyant style of play and remarkable athleticism. He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1975 and played for several teams throughout his career, including the San Diego Clippers and the Houston Rockets.
After retiring as a player, Bryant transitioned to coaching. He led the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks from 2005 to 2007 and returned to the position for the remainder of the 2011 season. He also coached in the Development League and internationally, most notably in Japan.
Bryant's sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the basketball community. His son, Kobe, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash in 2020. The loss of both father and son has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of fans and players alike.
