Biden Wins South Carolina Democratic Primary
Strong Showing in Early State
President Joe Biden easily won South Carolina's Democratic primary on Saturday, clinching a state he pushed hard to win.
With 97% of the expected vote counted, Biden had won 96%, Williamson took 2%, and Phillips 2%. The win gives Biden a much-needed boost after disappointing finishes in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada.
Significance of South Carolina
South Carolina is a key state in the Democratic primary process, as it is the first state in the South to hold a primary. The state has a large African American population, which is a key Democratic constituency. Biden's strong performance in South Carolina suggests that he may be able to win over black voters in other states.
The win also gives Biden a psychological boost as the race moves into Super Tuesday, when 14 states will hold primaries. Biden is now the clear frontrunner for the Democratic nomination, and his victory in South Carolina is a major step toward securing the nomination.
