How to Register to Vote in Illinois
Eligibility Requirements
To register to vote in Illinois, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be 18 years or older on the next Election Day
- Reside in the jurisdiction for 30 days prior to the election
- Be a U.S. citizen
Online Voter Registration
You can register to vote online up until 11:59 PM on October 20, 2024.
To register online, you will need to provide the following information:
- Your name
- Your address
- Your date of birth
- Your Social Security number (optional)
- Your driver's license or state ID number (optional)
Grace Period Registration
If you miss the online voter registration deadline, you can still register to vote during the Grace Period, which runs from October 21 to Election Day.
To register during the Grace Period, you can either:
- Mail in a voter registration form (must be postmarked by 28 days before Election Day)
- Register in person at your local election office or at a designated early voting site
Same-Day Registration
If you miss both the online voter registration deadline and the Grace Period, you can still register to vote on Election Day.
To register on Election Day, you must go to your polling place and provide proof of residency, such as a utility bill or bank statement.
